I listened to a Joe Rogan podcast with Graham Hancock and Randall Carlson. I learned about their theory that around 11,800 years ago, an aerial array of extraterrestrial objects (Taurid Meteorites or chunks of a Comet) impacted the ice sheet that was covering much of the upper northern hemisphere. The intense heat generated by their passage through the atmosphere melted immense areas of ice. This melt-water (estimated to contain as much water as every river on Earth times 10!) began an almost unimaginable, turbulent mega-flood that gouged its way south. As it flowed, it carried monstrous chunks of ice, huge boulders, hundreds of millions of various rock sizes, trees; and everything else it stripped from the landscape as it flowed. Anything alive in its path was swept up and drowned. An estimated 60-75% of the human population of the northern hemisphere was killed, their civilizations buried or wiped from the Earths surface. Of the species of megafauna (mammals over 45kg) that existed during this period, about 80% globally, and 72% in North America were rendered extinct. In North America, this included the Wooly Mammoth, Mastodon, 3 species of Sabre-toothed Cat, Dire wolf, Giant Jaguar, American Lion, Short-faced Bear, the two species of native horses, Camel, Llama, two Bison species, and Shrub-ox. Flooding killed the animals in the north, and massive fires; likely due to meteorite strikes killed them further south, before the flood waters (losing momentum and spreading out) extinguished most of the flames. The charred remains of everything organic was concentrated into a thin layer called the Black Matte, and buried under the remaining silts of the last of the deluge.
I have a passion for science, and for learning. This theory has finally allowed me to connect the dots. I have collated what I have learned throughout my life, and I xontinue to discover research that fills the holes in the story. According to the Scientific Method, which MUST be followed in testing and researching every branch of science; theories will always remain theories. Evidence in support can be hypothesized, tested following guidelines, published, peer-reviewed, and accepted or rejected by individuals. Experiments can also generate results that go against the hypotheses, but to prove or disprove a theory is virtually impossible. Those that are proven have become LAWS of science (ie Thermodynamics, Gravity, etc.). These laws have been extensively tested and observed. They explain how nature behaves, and most can be expressed mathematically. Theories are developed to attempt to explain WHY.
I felt that I had to create a platform to support the research into the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis. Mainstream Geologists, Astrophysicists, and Archaeologists refuse to entertain the possibilities that anything other than the long-accepted narratives, held by their respective disciplines as gospel, could have shaped the world. They have become Hypocrites, and have abandoned the core principles of being a scientist. They believe their THEORIES are LAW. Science requires opening your mind to any possible theory, examining published experimental results, and using that knowledge to decide what YOU THINK happened. I immediately discredit anyone who cannot see that theories are much like opinions, and believe they KNOW, and refuse to listen to alternate possibilities. These people make themselves very obvious. Not only do they not listen; they will aggressively interrupt, and even attack other theories. Take Graham Hancock for example. In his Netflix series, Ancient Apocalypse; he makes it very clear that he is NOT a scientist. He is a journalist, and his adult life has been devoted to studying ancient pre-history. I don’t believe everything he does, but the majority of his theories I cannot refute. His detractors have smeared and attacked him in every way possible. They lobbied Netflix to characterize his documentary as FANTASY, and he is called a pseudo-scientist, racist, and white supremacist. They have to resort to this behavior because they have no evidence to refute his theories. Real scientists would seek a friendly debate. This is the only way science can evolve. To paraphrase Planck’s Principle- Science progresses one funeral at a time. Attacking, slandering, and attempting to cancel people who think differently than they do, only hurts and regresses scientific understanding.
I am a Christian, and though this theory sounds better to me than conventional models of Geomorphology, it is still based on an earth that is millions/billions of years old. Through this site, I hope to attract and encourage scientific discussion and collaboration; and further our understanding of what happened.
